Positions will range from GS11 – GS14 and located in Norfolk, VA or Bremerton, WA. If interested in any of these positions, contact Taylor Amponin at [email protected] or (757)418-4001 to be notified when the positions are advertised. Required: · US Citizenship · Able to obtain and sustain a Secret Security Clearance · Structural/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and/or Naval Architecture education · Physically able to perform field inspections of Dry Dock Facilities (climb ladders, crawl through tunnels, walk and stand for long periods of time, etc.) using a variety of PPE (steel toe hip boots, fall protection harness, etc.) · Travel within the CONUS 25-50%. Occasional travel OCONUS (passport required). Preferred: · Professional License (Engineering or Naval Architecture) · Dry Dock design and operation knowledge · Dry Dock inspection and /or operational experience · Familiarity with MIL-STD-1625D(SH), NSTM 997, NSTM 9997.2B, NSTM 9997.3B, etc. Lessons Learned Maintenance of Wire Ropes: Saltwater and humid ocean air cause corrosion of metals, presenting challenges for the maintenance of high-strength steel wire ropes on dry docks. A deteriorated wire rope directly affects a dry dock’s ability to safely and reliably handle loads up to the rated capacity (safe working load). Therefore, diligent inspection, maintenance, and management of wire ropes are essential. Working wires should be changed at recommended intervals, or more frequently, depending on operating conditions and use. ______________________________ Position Available Seeking Dry Dock expert to join the DM Consulting Team. SYNCROLIFT® AND DM CONSULTING JOIN FORCES Many current shipyard practices date back to the 1700s – the days of sail, square-riggers, Nelson, and John Paul Jones. Some of those practices are very slow, unsafe, and labor-intensive. Legacy engineering is dangerous, and by definition should be a thing of the past. Syncrolift® Inc. of Miami, FL, and DM Consulting Inc (DMC) of San Diego, CA – two world leaders in the field of drydock engineering are joining forces to modernize shipyard operations and bring them into the 21ST Century. Together the two companies are committed to bringing modern, safer, and best-engineering practices to the industry. Established in 2000, DMC is recognized worldwide as a leading authority on the drydocking of ships and vessels. DMC personnel are dry dock experts with a combined 150+ years of experience in the industry, including involvement in over 2500 vessel drydocking projects and covering in excess of 5000 drydocking operations. DMC conducts Dry Dock Training around the world, in addition to a re-occurring International Dry Dock Conference and Advance Training Forum. Syncrolift® has been a significant player in the shipyard market for seven decades with 300 shiplift installations around the world. In addition to the eponymous Syncrolift®, the company also supplies innovative Fast Docking™ products and transfer systems for heavy load handling of ships which maximize shipyard productivity. Nuclear-powered submarines are transferred to launch on Syncrolift® transfer systems in shipyards for both the US, and UK navies. Syncrolift® supports its worldwide products in service with a network of service stations in North America, Europe, Middle East, Far-East, and Australasia. Syncrolift® makes sure to stay close to its customers worldwide and this new venture with DMC will provide additional training and support wherever required. The two companies are dedicated to maximizing safety in all aspects of Drydock engineering. DMC Dry Dock Training Course has accreditation with both The Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers (SNAME) and The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). All Syncrolifts® are built to Lloyds Register Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment. Dry Dock Quarterly Newsletter

Dry Dock Block Contact Indicator System The purpose of this project is to design and test a block contact detection system. Use of the system is intended to reduce or eliminate the need for divers to verify contact between the blocks and the vessel being drydocked. Alternate Blocking Materials The purpose of this project is to design and test three different materials as candidates for replacing structural elements of dry dock blocks. Two materials to be tested will be High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and neoprene, which are targeted at replacing soft and hard wood caps. The third material to be tested will be fiber reinforced concrete intended to replace the traditional steel reinforced concrete block. The goal of exploring alternate blocking materials is to be able to reduce the cost of wood materials consumed for each drydocking and extend the service life of the concrete blocks, reducing the overall shipyard operating cost and local environment impact. _______________________ Dry Dock Community Bulletin Board Post your free note here in the next quarterly newsletter! Lead times, and therefore the number of ship repairs, is significantly improved. Syncrolift is continuously developing smarter solutions to improve the productivity and speed of operations. An example is blocking solutions. The blocking wood used for stabilizing a ship is not a value gain from a shipowner’s point of view. It is possible to source solutions that avoid these costs, and Syncrolift has several options available. The efficiency of docking, launching and repair operations of ships is influenced by which solutions are used. The key element in all CeRam-Kote products is ceramic particle loading, which creates above normal adhesion of the coating to the substrate as it cures in the epoxy matrix bound within the anchor profile of the prepared steel plates. This same feature also provides exceptional abrasion and impact resistance, plus added corrosion protection and perm factor. A patented element allows up to 15% elongation/flexibility of the coating without rupture. Pontoon decks have been the primary application over the past 20 years, although preservation of historic ship hulls has made it an excellent candidate for underwater hull preservation as well. Ballast tanks/holding tanks are another application as a result of 35 years of use on offshore oil platforms.
